New Delhi Tours & Sightseeing

My wife and I booked this tour ahead of time from our home in Canada and went on the tour just a few days after arriving in India (this is my first visit to India). The tour was exactly as advertised with intangibles that made it even better.We were picked up in the nicest car we had ridden in so far on our trip and our driver, Ravi Kumar, was not only humorous but also incredibly considerate of our needs by offering us water and asking us to tell him if we needed the air conditioning turned up.We met our guide, Rahul, who is also the owner of Virsa travel, at a road side restaurant a couple of hours outside of Delhi. Rahul had an unassuming demeanor but his good humor and social ease was soon revealed as he sparked conversation and put us at ease while we enjoyed a delicious Indian breakfast together.Our next stop was at a primary and grade school in the countryside where we learned about the state of the education system from the teachers there and got to communicate with the children using our eyes and body language. This was the heartbreaking highlight for me (in a good way) – life changing for someone who has not traveled outside of the developed country in which they live.Rahul toured us around the small farming town and brought us to a family home where we joined the women in the kitchen as they prepared lunch. They are not accustomed to foreign visitors in this small place and the mutual fascination and desire to connect was palpable. The women had pre-prepared all of the ingredients but every step of the cooking process was described and shown. The food was authentic and delicious, prepared with love and rich with culture.After our lunch and heartfelt goodbyes our driver returned us to our hotel in Delhi. A few of the things that we appreciated the most is that Rahul offered all-in pricing. There were no hidden fees (such as highway tolls or taxes), no surprise stops at carpet shops (but if you want that typical experience I’m certain that Rahul would offer it but in a refined way), and our North American needs were understood and catered to without compromising the authenticity of the experience. And, best of all, we got to spend time with the Indian women in an Indian kitchen.The gratitude for the genuine connection and hospitality from this experience will always remain with us.P.S. The drive out to the country is a long one but Delhi is a big city to get out of. If you want a breather from it, just for a day, this offers that and, strange though it may seem, being in the car in Delhi for a while is part of what it means to experience India because it is a common experience for the people who live here.

It was one of the best day experience. I would recommend to everyone who wants to experience rural India and traditional food. The air was pure, people were hospitable and food was extraordinary.

This tour was amazing. I had spent time in Delhi, and had done the Golden triangle, and this was good change of pace, and atmosphere. This tour isn't for people who just want to see the sights and temples. This is truly a special and unique tour. It truly allows you to see and get insight into the daily lives, and culture of village life in india. It was probably one of my most memorable days in india. You are openly welcomed and interact with locals. Get to meet and view children at school, have a delicious home cooked lunch with locals. It was truly a unique and amazing experience.The tour operator Rahul is incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. He is open/honest and truly loves making the connections with people who take this tour. He can come off as quiet and reserved, but, all I can say is ask the questions that pop into your head, and connect with him. He is genuine and works to make this an unique experience for you!Hope others take advantage of this experience and view another side/part of india that many/most tourist miss out on!

This was a highlight in a trip filled with highlights. The village tour was a unique one on one experience with Indian people that have has much curiosity about you as you do of them. We got to see how real rural Indians live and experience there kindness and generosity. From meeting the children in school, tea with the village priest, the entourage of playful, curious boys and the wonderful lunch prepared as it has for generations by the family of the village elders, this was an experience that we will cherish for the rest of our lives.

I had the pleasure of traveling with Rahul in late March. The day-long trip was the experience of a lifetime I shall never forget. I've traveled to many countries and went on many tours, but none were this authentic. This tour was totally off the grid - not "touristy" at all. I met people living in the rural areas of India. I was a guest in their homes, and shared a meal with them (the food was amazing). The people I met were incredible, so friendly and happy to share information about their daily lives and culture. Rahul made everything very easy for me. If given another opportunity to visit India, I would connect with Rahul and Virsa Travels without hesitation. This was the best travel experience I've ever had!

He answered questions on life, religion, cultural expectations - nothing seemed off limits. We were picked up promptly at 8am by a driver who spoke very good English. After about two hours we stopped, met Rahul and had a very good Indian breakfast. We then drove another two hours to the village. We were welcomed warmly by a family, served juice and snacks and then shown around the village - the local school, temples, and their farm land. Although they spoke little English we asked many questions and Rahul translated for us. As we were walking many people in the village came to welcome us and have pictures taken. Everyone seemed very excited and happy to have visitors. We then had a delicious lunch at our host's family home, prepared by the wife but served by the husband. After lunch we met the extended family for chai, hugs, laughter and many pictures. Our five hours in the village ended far too quickly. We would have loved to stay and done the cooking class and dinner but we had a flight to catch. We were driven back to Delhi, a drive that took just over four hours due to the traffic congestion. Our local village tour was a definite highlight of our time in India - it was an amazing and memorable day. I had travelled all over the India. but this tour was once in a lifetime time experience. This was the best tour. If I try to find a single problem in this tour then I will not be able to find.If you want you really feel the nature and real India then go for this trip. Everything this was very properly managed in this tour and what a person is. What ever he promised before trip he delivered that.

This was a once in a lifetime sort of travel experience. Unlike other local village tours offered in the Dehli area or others I've attended, Virsa paired us with a town that wasn't set up as a tourist experience, and seemed to have experienced minimal contact with previous travelers. This meant that the people we met seemed as excited to meet travelers as we were to have a window into their daily lives. The cooking portion of the tour was equally authentic as we joined some extended members of our guide's family for dinner and cooking. The dishes were relatively simple, but it's a great experience for non-chefs looking to get insight into local cooking. Overall our best day in India.

Amazing experience! Way more than what I had anticipated from this tour. I got a chance to see the Indian village culture so closely and I felt a part of it as long as I was there.. 3 generations living together, and their bonding with each other, was a unique experience for me. And the way they welcomed me to their places, is something that can not be expressed in words! One of the best memories I have ever had in my travelling life. Highly recommended. Arrangements worked perfectly. Rahul was a great guide. Breakfast stop at an up-market Dhaba rest stop on the way, but we didn't have much as we'd already had breakfast at our hotel. Really interesting to see life in a village, in contrast to our family visit in Delhi. We were hosted by a family with large landholdings - esp. for sugar cane - and were given a tour of the village seeing some of the smaller farms, a local temple, and visiting the local elementary school. The family was very hospitable: their English was OK but not good apart from a daughter, but Rahul filled the gaps. Be aware it is a long journey: on the return you hit heavy traffic in Delhi and the last few miles take for ever, so make sure you ask for comfort breaks on the way.

We took the day excursion to a rural village, tiny, several hours north of Delhi. The trip included lunch in a farmers home, travel to a larger town and then cooking and dinner with another family.What a great way to understand real India, family life, their values, etc.We were four adult friends, but I can see this also being a wonderful experience for children! Much netter than museums!Our guide Rahul Walia was charming and everyone he introduced us to was as well. So informative, we must have asked a million questions about families, customs, marriage, caste, nothing was off limits.Thank you Rahul for an incredible day!Visited December 2016
